[Troop1020] Philmont - Summer 2009 - Sign Up Info

Dear Scouts and Parents --

Troop 1020 has been allocated a Philmont Expedition for the summer of 2009. Philmont is often the highlight of a Scout's experience, something to be remembered for a lifetime. It is so popular that expeditions are allocated by lottery and you may not even apply for a slot if your Troop had a slot the previous year. (This means Troop 1020 will not have a Philmont expedition in 2010.) It is now time to start getting our crew together for this adventure. If you are interested in going please let me know by return e-mail and/or by signing up at Troop 1020 meetings. Note the payment schedule below.

Here are some details you will want to know:
Who can go: Any Scout who will be 14 by January 1, 2009 (or be 13 and completed 8th grade prior to June 18, 2009). Registered Adult leaders. 
When: June 18, 2009 to July 1, 2009
    --  10 days on the trail from 6/20 to 6/30.
Where: Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, New Mexico
Cost: 
    Deposit -  $325 due September 1, 2008.
    2nd payment - $270 due February 1, 2008.
    Final payment - TBD (This is for our own expenses for travel and food there and back. For the trek in 2007 this was about $200 each but will likely be more with higher gasoline prices.)

We will have an information sharing meeting soon for you to learn more about Philmont and ask questions. This will be during one of the troop meetings and parents are encouraged to attend. Watch your e-mail for the date and time.
