Hello Scouts and Parents,
I haven't sent a group email in quite a while, but wanted to let you know about a couple of things that are going on in Troop 1020.

1) Court of Honor - With the next Court of Honor (COH) taking place on Monday, May 19th (at First United Methodist Church, 7:00 p.m.), there are several items that you'll want to keep in mind. For the new Scouts, the COH takes place once every 3 months and is a time for the Scouts to be recognized for their accomplishments (rank advancement, merit badges, hours of service, nights camping etc.) After the COH we gather for snacks or dinner. The food is normally very plentiful and we have some great cooks!

- I need an Master of Ceremony for the COH. Please consider this opportunity especially if you need requirement #8 of the Communications merit badge. This requirement is:

"Plan a troop court of honor or campfire program. Have the patrol leaders' council approve it, then write the script and prepare the program. Serve as the master of ceremonies."

I'll work with you on your outline and I'd like to have this position filed within the next week so we can start planning.

- You will want to start wrapping up merit badges and rank advancements if you'd like them recognized at this COH. In preparation for this event, May 5th will be the last date to turn in completed blue cards for your merit badges and to have completed both Scout Master Conferences AND Board of Reviews for the May 19th COH. Last COH blue cards were accepted up to a day before the COH and it was too difficult to have everything ready. Therefore the date of May 5th is a firm date. This gives you 4 weeks to "be prepared", so please start your planning now. If you have questions or need help, please come see me or send me an email and let me know how you need help with your advancements.

- If you are interested in moving your Scout Master Conference (SMC) or Board of Review (BOR) to the Camporee this coming weekend, please let me know. Mr. Cooley and large number of adult leaders will be glad to work with you to get this accomplished. Jimmy, Nick, Nathan, Austin G., and Elliott - you are all candidates since you've actually signed up for a slot in the next couple of weeks. Let me encourage you to get this completed at this campout and allow other Scouts to have your slots in the schedule. I will be contacting each of you. If there are other Scouts that are ready for their SMC or BOR, please contact me in the next couple of days to make sure your paperwork is in order and that I bring the required items on the campout. (Remember Scouts you'll need not only paperwork, but also FULL class A for SMC or BOR, Scout Handbook and status of current due.)

- Linda Fisher will be sending an email about the food for the COH about 1 week before this event.

2) Crossover into Boy Scouts - This is a very special event for the Cub Scouts entering Troop 1020. We have 8 boys joining our Troop and are very glad to have each one of you and your parents. Scouts in Troop 1020 - please remember how important this ceremony is and support these boys by being present at the Nature Trail Crossover this Monday evening (April 7th) at 7:00. There is also a crossover ceremony for the boys in Pack 52 that are joining our Troop. The Pack 52 ceremony will take place at Keeley Elementary School. There are several Scouts and adult leaders that will be attending the Keeley ceremony. Remember, no one is meeting at the Scout Hut this Monday. Please go directly to the crossover ceremony.

3) Cleaning the Scout Hut - Mrs. Brewster and I quickly cleaned the Scout Hut today. My thanks for her help since we were meeting there to get the new Scout's packets ready and decided the Scout Hut looked like it really needed some attention. ALL - Please remember how very fortunate we are to have such a facility for our Troop and to clean up after yourself. Each patrol will be taking a turn sweeping and taking out trash after our Monday meetings. Braiden will let you know when it's your turn. If we keep up with these small chores each week, the Scout Hut will look so much better.

4) Camporee - This will be a great campout this coming weekend, April 11th - 13th with lots of activities and competitions planned! (I'm sure either Mr. Cooley or Mr. Wells will be sending an email this week about the departure time and any final details. Be sure to watch for this email so you can be on time.) Pedro (the adult leaders) will be cooking, and the food will be great! I haven't been camping since Winter Camp and look forward to seeing you there. I could use two adult volunteers in preparation for Camporee: 1) Help me check in Scouts and Adults Friday evening prior to departure from the Scout Hut. This person will also help check in Scout's medicine. ALL Scout medicine is kept in the large First Aid box, with the exception of inhalers, which are usually kept with the Scout. 2) Adult leader going on the campout who will ensure the Scouts get their medicine on time. I normally do this, but will likely be busy with cooking and could use some help. I'll give you a chart that tells you exactly which Scout gets which medicine and when. Please email or call if you can help.

Thanks and have a great Sunday!
